At a PETTING ZOO. 😳 Baby goats from a mobile petting zoo in North Carolina tested positive for rabies after they had already been out interacting with people. According to the owner, the goats went to 10 events during that period: SEVEN children’s birthday parties and THREE assisted-living facilities. Babies, children and elderly people were loving on and petting these little goats, with no idea rabies could even be a possibility. And honestly, how many of us have taken our kids to a petting zoo and NEVER thought about rabies? 🙋🏾‍♀️ I know I hadn’t. The owner says she didn’t know either. She says she’s being attacked on social media, and even her own son had to receive rabies shots. I’m not sharing this to attack her. I’m sharing it because parents need to know this can happen. If your child has possible contact with an animal known or suspected to have rabies, don’t rely on whether you can see a bite or scratch. Call your doctor or local health department and let the professionals determine whether treatment is needed. Rabies can take weeks or months before symptoms appear, and once symptoms begin, it is almost always fatal. So, yeah… I’m telling y’all from my bed. 🛌🏾 I didn’t know yesterday. Now I do.
