I’m from NY and this literally sounds like my best friend’s in laws, her FIL had a brother who faked his own death but they only suspected he faked it. He never resurfaced but there were some weird things, like they never had a funeral, etc. It’s not the same but very similar. Crazy.

My Sister's Father-in-law faked his death to get away from her Mother-in-law. Now this had happened b4 she & her husband were married. He hung out in the Virgin Islsnds,but was eventually found out.
