He didn't say the buildout blows up the economy. Watch the clip again. The interviewer feeds him that line and Sam agrees that IF the economy blows up it would hit OpenAI too. That's a tautology, not a confession. What he actually said is that random new GPU cloud startups are promising giant buildouts with no revenue and no buyers, and he called that unsustainable. He's been saying bubble since August 2025 when he told reporters investors were overexcited and someone was going to lose a phenomenal amount of money. So this isn't a shift, it's the same line he's run for a year, and the point of it is to get on record calling it early so when the weak players die he's the guy who warned you. Also he's not appeasing shareholders, OpenAI is private, it filed confidentially in June. The real story is stronger than the one in this video anyway. OpenAI did 6.7 billion in Q2 with a 12.3 billion operating loss while Anthropic did 11.6 billion and a small profit. And the BIS just named AI capex and circular financing as top global risks. Use that. It's better ammo.

I mean companies making data centers are doing some shady loans to build them so if it doesn’t work out for them, the US government will probably just bail them out.
