This is one of the reasons why many Americans who are aware of what’s happening in Canada get frustrated with all this French-language debate and internal politics. From an American perspective, some of this can look like outright discrimination, while the federal government just allows it to continue. Quebec is still a province of Canada. It’s not a country. Hello? Either become an independent country or act within the framework of being a Canadian province. Period. And when this kind of internal division keeps escalating, don’t be surprised when Americans look at Canada and wonder where all of this is heading.
