I lost someone who was my best friend for years, and I still regret so many of the things I did wrong. I fought so hard to save our friendship because, no matter how bad things got, I never wanted to give up on him. I apologized, tried to fix things, and kept hoping we could somehow find our way back to each other. But at the same time, he never really wanted to see his own mistakes. What hurts the most is realizing that he had already given up on me long before I knew it. For almost an entire year, I kept believing there was still something worth saving, while he was making fun of me behind my back and had already emotionally moved on without ever actually telling me it was over. His girlfriend and the way she influenced and manipulated the situation also became a huge part of why everything fell apart. I know I made mistakes, and I genuinely wish I could go back and change so many things. But I also know now that I wasn’t the only person who hurt this friendship. And somehow, after everything, I still miss him. I still miss who we used to be. A part of me is still waiting for an apology, or even just a message saying, “I miss you too. Can we talk?” even though deep down I know it will probably never come.
