賽考斯本名：羅納德・薩科爾斯基（Ronald Sakolsky），是美國人，退休前是一名中學歷史老師。1999年，他來中國河南洛陽擔任外教。 當時他在電視上看到內蒙古毛烏素沙地的農婦 殷玉珍 長期種樹治沙，非常感動。 他後來透過美國的機構籌款，募集了5,000美元捐給殷玉珍，讓她購買樹苗、進行治沙造林 1999年的 5,000美元，後來買來、種下的樹苗，經過二十多年，據中國媒體報導已經形成5萬多棵樹的森林。

In 1999, Sakolsky was teaching English at Luoyang Foreign Language School in Henan, China, through the U.S.-China Teachers Exchange Program. * He saw a television report about Yin Yuzhen (殷玉珍), a Chinese farmer in Inner Mongolia who was fighting desertification by planting trees in the Maowusu Sandy Land. * Deeply moved by her efforts, he spent about two months raising US$5,000 and donated the money to help Yin and her husband buy seedlings. * Those seedlings eventually grew into more than 50,000 trees, contributing to a dramatic transformation of the formerly barren landscape. * The two lost contact for more than 20 years. In 2026, they were finally reunited when Sakolsky returned to China. He visited Yin’s home and the forest they had helped create together.
