Fuel is a brand that's owned by Premier Foods group which is a huge food company in the UK that owns brands like OXO, Bisto, Bachelors and lots of other well-known brands. And this brand Fuel is a prime example of a huge food company just making up a brand, slapping protein on the front, and then charging people a huge premium to take advantage of the ‘high protein’ trend. This is such a case again of profit over people by a huge food company, they are taking advantage of people who are just trying to do their best and increase their protein intake because the narrative out there is that everyone needs to be eating more protein for their health! And they see products like this and think it’s a healthy option to increase their protein. But when you look at what’s in these products… like the breakfast drink high protein milk - you’re paying a premium for what is essentially 95% skimmed milk with a load of unnecessary additives added to it to make it taste palatable - like thickeners, flavourings, stabilisers & artificial sweetener. And the reality is you’d only be getting 1 gram extra of protein per 100ml than if you just buy a carton of skimmed milk!! And yet they’re charging €5.42 per litre for this ultra processed skimmed milk when you can just buy regular skimmed milk for €1.25 per litre… add a handful of nuts with a glass of milk and you’d be getting more protein than that Fuel protein milk… when you really start to look at products like this your eyes are truly opened to the horrible tactics the food industry pulls in order to get us to buy their products and spend more than we need to. What do you think of this? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
