@onlyhikes: The first betrayal is their choice. The second one is yours. That doesn’t give us justification to hate them. It doesn’t give us permission to retaliate, hurt them, or become the very thing that hurt us. And it certainly doesn’t mean we aren’t allowed to be sad. Sometimes betrayal comes with a loss that feels like grief. You mourn the person you thought they were. You mourn the trust you gave them. You mourn the future you imagined and the version of the relationship you believed was real. But eventually, we have to accept the lesson. When someone shows you that they are willing to betray your trust, you have two choices: lose the person, or keep the person and live with the expectation that it may happen again. That doesn’t mean people can’t change. It means you have to pay attention to patterns, not promises. I’m not here to advise anyone who has been betrayed to immediately walk away. Maybe the relationship is worth another chance. Maybe the person is worth the risk. Maybe the ticket is worth the price of admission. Just understand the cost of the ticket. Because forgiveness doesn’t require you to forget. Love doesn’t require you to ignore reality. And peace doesn’t require you to hate someone. Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is quietly accept what happened, learn from it, forgive what you can, and decide what access that person gets to your life. Not out of anger. Not out of revenge. But out of self-respect. Protect your peace. Learn the lesson. And never confuse forgiveness with permission to hurt you again. #alhamdulillah #healing #MentalHealth #Hiking #recovery
