@23ejj3: American tanks T34 Calliope The T34 Calliope was a tank-mounted multiple rocket launcher used by the U.S. Army during World War II. Designed in 1943, it was mounted atop the M4 Sherman, with vertical side frames anchored to the turret's sides, firing a barrage of 4.5-inch (114 mm) M8 rockets from 60 launch tubes. The array could fire its rockets nearly 2.5 miles for wide-area suppression.It got its nickname from the "Calliope," a steam organ historically found on Mississippi riverboats and associated with circus music — a nod to the launcher's rows of parallel tubes. Beyond its firepower, the weapon had a strong psychological effect: the shriek of the rockets flying overhead terrified enemy soldiers, often demoralizing them as much as damaging them physically.Small numbers were produced and used by various U.S. armor units in 1944–45, seeing action with the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 12th, and 14th Armored Divisions.
