@instituteofhumananatomy: THC and CBD enter your body together, but they treat your nervous system completely differently. 🧠 The full video just dropped on YouTube. THC works mainly through one receptor: CB1. These live throughout your central nervous system, especially the brain, where they normally help regulate memory, movement, mood, and appetite. When THC binds and activates them, it changes how your neurons communicate, and that's what produces the "high." CBD? It plays by different rules entirely. 👉 Tap the link in our bio to watch the full breakdown on YouTube. #LearnOnTikTok #TikTokLearningCampaign #LearnBiologyOnTikTok #THC #CBD #neuroscience #anatomy #humanbody #cannabis #anatomyandphysiology #medstudent #iohaanatomy

One of the weirdest things about CBD and some other cannabinoids is they can bind to CB1 and CB2 receptors, but also a whole host of serotonin receptors as well (including 5-HT2A). However it doesn’t bind in the same way that serotonin or psychedelics do, and THC cannot bind directly to serotonin receptors, but can form a complex known as a CB1-5-HT2A heteromer, which is basically the serotonin and CB1 receptors combined.
