Laura’s mom feels very two faced and I don’t trust her. She might help Laura in the long haul but Laura will never hear the end of it. That’s my theory.

I thought it was a good contrast to Mama D, who raised Shawna & Shawna caught the red flags. If Laura was raised by “he’s a good man” mentality, then she might let those flags slip by.

Laura’s mom gives me the vibe of less that she thinks Luke is a good man so much as divorce is the worst thing someone can do, even if they’re in an emotionally abusive marriage. Like she wants to protect her daughter but she’s more focused on the social stigma that may result from Laura getting herself and the kids out rather than the damaging element. She outright says a good wife keeps her vows (insinuating even if a husband does not).

I think she has clocked him but she is playing along to his face. Probably not her first narcissist. I think she is nervous about the money bc she is worried it will backfire. She seems to know the meeting wasn’t actually work related.

I’ll play the devils advocate: Laura has tried to hide what’s going on to everyone. That likely includes her mother. He mom may not be completely in the know of what Laura is truly going through.

Anyone else clock that he gave her mom the bigger bouquet? Clearly trying to manipulate her after she didn’t like him not being there for Laura’s birthday and it worked. I think she’ll help Laura because she loves her, but not without telling her how much she disapproves or telling her she’s making a mistake. Laura’s mom is borderline emotionally abusive and that likely set Laura up to be vulnerable to a guy like Luke in the first place.

This part of the story line gave me the ick, the whole time. I fee so bad for Laura and Luke is such trash. If Shawna stays with the previous Luke/Laura lore, Laura doesn’t leave Luke this early. I remember the Father’s Day episode where she returns Luke’s “efforts” for holidays by doing absolutely nothing and I believe the kids are at least beyond toddler years. So we’ll see!

Tamara has me very confused about her character…I feel like she recognizes there are issues but is not ok with divorce, but she didn’t strike me as going so far in that opinion that she’d tattle on Laura’s plans. The fact that she appears to be the one who handled Greg and Jen’s marriage license is interesting.

It seems like Laura’s mom’s main metric for judging Luke to be a good man is that he “provides”. I guess it’s kind of a good sign that even though she told Laura she didn’t approve, she also told her that she’d have to think smarter and offered to order a copy of her birth certificate. That could turn on a dime though

When you have grown up in and ONLY known family dynamics with abuse, there is a belief that there is no such thing as a relationship without some abuse, just that other people don’t discuss it because you know it’s the normal amount of abuse. “But did he hit you?” Is a common question asked by people with this belief.

I think Laura’s mom is torn. Like, maybe she believes divorce is actually morally wrong or never the better choice. BUT, she wants her daughter to be happy. She maybe doubts divorce could be in Laura’s best interest. But she can see things aren’t right. I don’t think she’ll be able to provide emotional support for Laura to leave (or after she’s gone), but I don’t think she’ll take Luke’s side in any tangible way. She didn’t rat Laura out about the ‘change’ and is helping with the birth certificate.

I also noticed and I feel like she did this intentionally Shawna did the mom's flowers were bigger than hers and I don't know if anybody else noticed that but like her her bouquet was smaller. he's catering to the mom's ego so she can love him so that his mask doesn't slip with the mom I think the mom may know he may not be perfect but she was raised in an older generation that has the mindset that you stay with your man regardless of what they do it's a woman's job to stay. but I feel like she also has her daughters back cuz she told her to be smart so I feel like she may not like what she's doing but she's not going to not have her back because she's her daughter.

Yeah it feels like the mom blames Laura for the situation she's in. she might support her but at the end of the day she thinks Laura isnt trying hard enough.
