If morality is based on personal perception then it can only be subjective. And if an action is objectively good then no, intention doesn't matter. but that then raises the question of whats "objectively good" who decides that 🤔

an action cannot be “objectively good” as morality is subjective. this is why laws exist, to seperate good and evil. if your action is objectively good according to the law, your intention will only matter to defining your standard of morality (to the extent you seperate immoral from moral). you can have skewed morals but follow objective good. it’s two separate concepts.

first we must define objective and subject. objective will stand for independent of the mind and subjective with stand for dependent on the mind. i already believe morality is a subjective idea, but ill entertain the idea. so you posit an objectively good action, but ask if the intention matters; it wouldn’t matter as intention is something stemmed from the mind which inherently makes it mind dependent (as if the mind didn’t exist, this intention wouldn’t exist). the condition you put for “if so” just defeats the entire purpose of it being objective, so no, the intention does not matter, and if it did the action wouldn’t be objectively good. hope i explained well enough

intentions matter because he still intended to do evil. sure this time he failed and did something good instead (or they thought it was evil). But what about next time? There is no guarantee that a person who has evil intentions and did a good thing, will do something good again.

seeing that you agree that morality is subjective how can you class a moral action as objectively good or bad. we have guidelines that we set, i think it's more would society approve of it because morals are only here because we are, so we are the foundation for its definitions.

morality isn't purely subjective because complete subjectivism leads to chaos, especially in law. intention matters when evaluating character, but if someone judges actions strictly by outcome and regardless of intent, that’s also a fair stance, as long as they apply the same rule consistently to themselves
