The US spends 50 billion on JUST nuclear weapon maintenance, which is equal to the entire Russian military budget. Which means that many of the Soviet Unions nuclear weapons are nonfunctional.

I did this for 6 years in the Air Force, we disassembled the ICBMs for depot maintenance. One of those requirements being the warheads being swapped out because of the tritium decay. Very cool stuff, thanks for the perspective.

As a brit this is particularly interesting. Not only does Britain not have an independent delivery system (the D5 ii trident missiles are all made and maintained in the UK and loaned to the Uk- the uk has no other delivery options) but i now know critical components of the warhead are US made yet uk politicians pretend we have an independent nuclear weapons program and the public in general are completely ignorant. We waste billions every year on a system that is massively dependent on the US.
