the game monopoly was invented under the original name the landlord's game (you can find out more by goigling that) as a teaching tool for the economic theories of Henry George, who was a strong critic of land ownership. the game show how the game predictably ends with one person owning everything every single time. but the original game had a second rule set, where you would play forever and it would never happen. it's sadly ironic that this game endet up being one of the best sold games ever, but stripped of the revolutionary concept it was created to teach.
