it’s not that you CAN’T throw things away, it’s that you are supposed to have little trash cans divided by type in your apartment, throw the trash in those whenever you want and THEN, once they’re full, you’re supposed to take those trash bags and throw them in the collective bins. and that’s what you have to do between 21 and 24. AND, the reason why you have to do it at night is because with italian heat the trash will start rotting and stinking, at night it won’t be as bad.

the rules about the time you can throw the trash it's because they don't want to have trash bags in the open all day long, but in my town (Agerola) it's from 21:00 to 5:00 in the morning, i suppose they take the trash during the night in your town?

no it’s literally sooo confusing at our airbnb in maiori we can only put trash out from 11:30 pm - 2 am and will be fined if we check out and there is any trash 🫣

We had all the dumpster 20 years ago. Now every day we have one kind of trash because in that way people produce less trash. Recycling is most successfull now

So there’s only one green bin that you can fill only on the specific day depending on the type of waste? It’s actually quite strange. There should be different-colored bins for each type of waste (brown for organic waste, blue for paper, dark green for glass, and plastic usually goes in special bags, at least where I live in northern Italy).

It’s not just the Amalfi Coast. I think all of Italy is like this. All over Sicily it is like this. Secco is anything that cannot fit into the other categories. It’s just your normal trash, think dirty paper towels, tissues, some weird packaging that you can’t separate to recycle etc. With so many other categories for recycling, secco it’s usually that smallest amount that we put out. In most places I’ve been in Sicily, the secco category is called Indifferenziata.

Indifferenziato is basically non-recyclable things like dirty diapers/tampons/q tips or used razors and toothbrushes, also receipts and things that are food dirty that can’t be cleaned 😚

non è normale ci sia solo un bidone della spazzatura per tutto. dovreste averne uno per ciascun differente tipo di spazzatura. chiedi all'amministratore di condomonio il motivo

My town has electric bins where you have to scan your sanitation card to throw trash. They will fine you if they see you only open up one bin and the price you pay is based on how much trash you produce.

dove vivo io abbiamo un apposito stanzino con cassonetti di diversi colori per carta, plastica, vetro, umido, indifferenziato. Non ho mai visto un solo cassonetto per tutti i tipi di spazzatura. Il condominio dovrebbe richiedere cassonetti regolamentari. Io vivo in Lombardia però, ogni città ha regole diverse.
