Paco and Cruz were step-brothers. Paco and Miklo were cousins -- their mothers were sisters. Also: Paco was FORCED to join the Marine Corp. It was that or end up in prison with Miklo. His stepdad, Mano (Cruz's father) was in the Marines, and was pulling strings to get Paco into the Corp. Point is: Paco didn't make this choice of his own volition. He was given a choice: Prison or Military. He tells this to Cruz when Cruz gets out of the hospital. You could imply that Mano had something to do with that ultimatum. And as a Marine, Paco grew up because of his discipline.

not true people people grow up and being in prison and on protect his family and then stuff like that the gang life is not forever people learn that you eat a die get killed or wind up in prison, and there’s a real man with stepped away from all that stuff and I used to be a gangbanger too, and I changed my life.
