Makes me wonder how the Gurus would feel about the larger more extravagant gurdwaras in North America. At a certain point, do they not miss the point, and become hubs to collect profit?

I feel like I understand this very deeply. It reminds me of when my sister and I did Punjabi school in a gurdwara when we lived in Victoria, BC, Canada. I was 11 then. The classes were always in the evening, so the it would be dark outside. We had the class in the langar hall which was just as small as the one in the video, and go upstairs to mathatek the end of class. I was always creeped out by what I didn’t know at that time was ‘liminality’. Looking back 20 years later, I feel that all places of worship, when empty, are probably at the precipice of liminality but in a positive way. Perhaps it’s the idea that the empty space is actually filled with the presence of God that makes it feel uncomfortable, b/c we don’t know how to feel with all that energy?? Lol idk, just thought I’d throw this out there!
