If you put it in correctly, putty works perfectly fine, and I really don't see the need in using a 1/2 a tube of silicone on a tub shoe, and if that thing ever has to be changed out for any reason. You'll have to take out the entire tub just to try to get that off. It is now a permanent fixture. You'll break the tub before you get that thing loose that's about as bad as those videos. I've seen of people putting concrete in the bottom opening of toilets to keep them from rocking lol

it pushes the gasket out because you use silicone which in that case acts like a lubricant for the gasket

Only because you got silicone on it using plumbers putty only on the drain, put plumbers dope on rubber washer both sides then I tighten pretty type and have never had a problem in 47 years of plumbing never had a leak. Now when a leak has appeared and I’ve gone to make a repair it was because a non plumber used silicone and that silicone is extremely harder to get the tub waste and overflow off.
