What I like about this is that it actually gives practical economic purpose to building the pyramids, beyond simply being a show of opulence for the royals. Grand undertakings like this are rarely if ever done for purely ceremonial purposes, but usually have some economic benefit or rationale attached to it, such as providing plenty of building materials for large-scale development

Is it assumed that the leftover stone that is cut from the original pyramid usable? I would think a lot of the leftover pieces would be smaller, unusable shapes, even if after carving it away they don’t crumble and break.

Essentially, the pyramids were made of wet clay that was shaped and then hardened by firing. You must be wondering where they got the water? Previously, there was a river near the pyramids which has now dried up. This has been explained in the Quran.
