@42acresretreat: It’s almost time to say goodbye. Across the site, the hirundines are gathering. Noisy and insistent. Urging the last of the fledglings to leave the safety of their nests and embark on the adventure that awaits. Their urgency can be felt. Soon, they will migrate. It is an extraordinary business, this migration. Birds and butterflies compelled to cross continents. Swifts leaving the nest for the first time and remaining airborne for years, sleeping on the wing. European eels compelled towards the Sargasso Sea on a final pilgrimage, absorbing parts of their own bodies for sustenance along the way... At this time of year, perhaps we too notice a deep internal restlessness. An aching pull towards something we cannot yet see, but towards which we nonetheless feel compelled.
