Ingredients above roughly 1% are listed in descending order, so the first five to seven names tell you what the formula mostly is. A barrier product earns its claim in two ways: it can rebuild the barrier's lipid mortar (ceramides, cholesterol, fatty acids, ideally together), or it can protect and calm the skin while it rebuilds itself (occlusives, humectants, soothers). I did this with the internet's favorite barrier balm. The top of the list: water, an occlusive emollient, dimethicone, glycerin, shea butter, then panthenol at position six. That is a real protect-and-soothe backbone, and the marquee ingredient genuinely sits high. What is not on the label anywhere: ceramides or cholesterol. So it may help calm a stressed barrier, but it is not resupplying the lipids your barrier is made of. Different job, honestly done.
