@grande_americano: I’m not sure if this is actually a cultural difference, or just something I’ve noticed since moving here… Back in Texas, I regularly took allergy medicine, multivitamins, ibuprofen, melatonin and nasal spray. Since moving to England, though, I basically take nothing. Outside of the occasional ibuprofen or paracetamol for an ache or pain, my medicine cabinet barely gets touched these days. It’s made me wonder: do Americans generally reach for medication and over-the-counter remedies more often than Brits do? 🇺🇸🇬🇧 Or have I just accidentally become healthier since moving to England? 😂 #atexaninengland #culturaldifferences #healthhabits #nhs #lifeintheUK

The problem Americans can get those drugs easily.. I went to America and was shocked you can buy painkiller on the supermarket.. I live in Switzerland all drugs must be purchased through pharmacy

That’s because healthcare in the US is profit based, while the NHS is cost-effectiveness based. Drugs aren’t encouraged or prescribed unless they’re actually necessary.

Long term ibuprofen will destroy your stomach. Glad you stopped. When you do actually need a combination of paracetamol and ibuprofen for pain it will definitely work. You can build a resistance to them.

Maybe that’s why we don’t sell them in bottles of 500 😅

Do you think this has anything to do with the food. I mean American food is basically banned here.

Please make sure you’re taking a vitamin D supplement as a minimum. We don’t get enough sunlight here due to our location, and as a result a lot of people are Vitamin D deficient

Brits don’t have annual check ups all through life either. The US medical model is just designed to make money, in Britain we only use medicine/doctors when really necessary.

You walk a lot now. I’m guessing you walked much less in Texas. That’s probably helped many of the aches and pains. And different pollen here to what you were allergic to in Texas? 😁

Watch the ibuprofen as you are getting older as it starts to affect your stomach and kidneys

I just watched another person from the US saying they were shocked that the UK doesn’t have many medication adverts whereas in the US there are medication advertisements for just about everything. It’s crazy to me.
