As someone from NYC, which is the most diverse city in the world, I’ve dated a lot of different women when I was younger: Black American women, Caribbean women, Asian women, Latina women, African women, White American women, European women, etc. As a Black American man, besides Black American women, the group of women I’ve usually had the most in common with, both culturally and socially, has been White American women. Although we are technically from two different racial groups and there are still many differences between us, we are both foundational and heritage Americans. We are also both culturally American. Therefore, many of our cultural and social norms, values and familiarities are very similar or the same. Because of this, I’ve usually had far more in common with and been more compatible with White American women than I’ve been with African and Caribbean women, despite the fact that we are technically of the same race. The same way how a Black Jamaican would usually have more in common with a Chinese Jamaican or White Jamaican than they do with Black Americans or Africans. Or a black Kenyan would usually have more in common with an indo Kenyan whose ancestors were brought to Kenya by the British in the 19th century then they do with Black Americans or Caribbeans.
