@ashleytheebarroness: Replying to @viejolobo That phrase is literally the reason this history matters. Because Afro-Salvadorans existed. The country just spent generations teaching people not to see them. #elsalvador #afrolatino #worldhistory #historytok #fyp
I’m from San Miguel, all I have to do is look at pictures of my grandfather and I can proudly say “si hay negros en El Salvador”

Thanks for educating us.. I grew up in El Salvador, but I have never heard that phrase. However, I know my some of my people are racist and colorist. I remember my grandma saying very racist things about black people. 😔
I am glad I didn't learn her racism!

There is colorism all over Latin America. Harvard Professor Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. did a 4 part series on PBS entitled “Black in Latin America.”

I was born in ES, my parents are both from ES….. my family carries sickle cell. I moved to the US when I was 3 y/o. I was always looked at by healthcare workers very surprised that I carried sickle cell. I’m an adult now and I’ve told my family, you realize that genetics don’t lie
