Day 20 of Introducing Our Herd 1 by 1 ✨ Shamy Age: 11 Shamy is the absolute star of the farm—full of personality, quirks, and a whole lot of drama. I found him on a llama Facebook group five years ago. What are the odds?! I had been researching camels as my next pet, and suddenly the only camel I had ever seen for sale in Canada (and still the only one I’ve seen in the last 5 years of constantly looking for a second one) was just 2 hours from my farm. When he arrived, Shamy was definitely a behavioral project. He couldn’t be caught, refused a halter without a full battle, had intense anxiety that made him hard to approach, dangerous in certain situations and would drag/lift off the ground people three times my size. He also had a hobby of… breaking absolutely everything. But, he was friendly at the fence thanks to his petting zoo past, and luckily—he’s never been a kicker (huge win 😅). Over the years, I’ve put a LOT of training into him, and he has come such a long way. His saddle training is progressing, he’s finally getting over his fear of leaving the pasture, and—for the first time in years—he hasn’t broken anything all summer. The fencing survived. I never thought I’d see the day 😱😂 Most of you know him as the snow-zoomies camel. Shamy loves winter—dancing, zooming, rolling, living his happiest life. In summer? Whole different story. He’s grumpy, sweaty, hides in his barn all day, and occasionally lies down in the middle of the field looking like a dramatic dead carcass “suffering” in the heat 😂. Shamy has to be involved in everything you do. He’s curious, food-motivated, mischievous, and a total drama queen with a HUGE personality. He genuinely doesn't know he's a camel. During the day he hangs out with the horses—his best friend is Toledo—and every night he tucks himself into bed beside the llamas. He’s ready for a real camel friend… and that’s where you come in! After a lot of research, we’ve learned that a sweepstake is the only legal way to fundraise in New Brunswick, so that’s exactly what we’re doing. We’re in the final steps of setting it up, and soon you’ll be able to enter through our website and social media accounts. Here’s the reality: to bring a camel to Canada, including purchase, shipping, vetting, and paperwork and exchange rate.. we need to raise $40,000 CAD. We’ve found a camel, and someone is ready to help bring it here—so we now know the real cost.
