@cheflifestyle_: Exploring Ghana’s Green Leafy Vegetables 🌿 ; Kontomire Kontomire is probably one of the most familiar indigenous leafy vegetables in southern Ghana and it’s quite versatile in soups and stews You can use it to make kontomire soup, abunabunu, nkate nkonto, cutting them into palmnut and groundnut soup and, of course, the many variations that exist from one kitchen to another. Today, we’re making kontomire soup. And this is where I want to open up a conversation because kontomire soup and abunabunu ; are they the same for you? although I know the distinction can look different depending on where you’re from and how your family prepares it. One of the things that gives abunabunu its characteristic green colour is the use of ingredients like green pepper and, traditionally, even unripe green tomatoes in some preparations. Tomatoes are generally left out because they change the colour and character of the soup. But food traditions are rarely as simple as one fixed recipe. So I want to hear from you: Where are you from, and how does your family distinguish kontomire soup from abunabunu? What goes into yours? And what do you call it? Let’s keep documenting these little differences in the way we cook across Ghana. #greenleafyvegetables #kontomiresoup #cheflifestyle_
