@ccatherapist: This happens a lot. There is often a moment in a first therapy consult where a client describes exactly what they’ve been trying to describe to therapists for years. And I get to say something they’ve never been told: “we can actually work with that at the body level and encourage your nervous system to release it.” Because talk therapy works with the thinking brain. It’s powerful too, don’t get me wrong! It changes things for sure! But some of what we carry lives deeper than words can reach, in the subcortical brain (deeper in the nervous system). In the body! Brainspotting works there. If your body has been holding something that talking alone hasn’t been able to shift then you might just need a different tool for what you’re carrying. Brainspotting is a focused, brain-based psychotherapy tool that uses specific eye positions to help people locate, process, and release deep-seated trauma, emotional pain, and body stress. It’s really an incredible experience! We believe in it so much that we see our own BSP therapists too! Have you ever felt like therapy wasn’t reaching the deepest part of what you’re dealing with? Tell me about it in the comments. 💙 A Quick Reminder: While we talk a lot about the mind-body connection here, this post is not a substitute for medical or mental health treatment. Please ensure you are cleared by a medical doctor for any physical symptoms before exploring them through a somatic or mental health lens. Accepting new therapy clients in-person in Indianapolis, IN and virtually throughout Indiana, Ohio and Florida! #brainspotting #somatictherapy #BSP #indianapolistherapist #traumahealing

This is where my therapist says I’m at. I like understand and can explain everything about my situation and how I can help myself. she says intellectually, I’m very self aware, but I can’t emotionally understand it. I can’t emotionally connect the pieces in the moments that matter

Brainspotting with my therapist has legitimately saved me. My cPTSD symptoms are down. I haven't had a manic episode since my first one 3.5years ago. I don't have to talk during it, I just have to feel, and it's helped me release things I never knew I needed to release.

So how do you find a therapist that does this. I’ve went to several therapists. I know what my issues are but talking about them has not solved anything for me despite being able to be 100% honest and articulate exactly how I’m feeling and why

I know everyone wants a quick and easy fix but, as someone who also struggles with ADHD (not to mention a demanding job) it feels incredibly overwhelming to dedicate myself to something like this. 🥺

my last therapist told me I was too self aware, he said he wasnt sure what he could do to help. I never blamed him, I'm glad he said something... but it definitely explains why talk therapy never really worked out for me

Do you know if any Infant Mental Health networks provide trainings in this therapy approach like MIAIMH maybe or Zero to Three?! I’m SO interested in this as an IMH trauma focused clinician!

Or talking about how I feel or my problems doesn't make me feel better or undo what happened. I truly do not understand how talk therapy helps anyone. Obviously it does, so I'm missing something. What is talk therapy supposed to help me find or realize?
