@vowtogrow: Replying to @Eliah in Florida someone said venues book 100 weddings per year, but I’ve spoken with hundreds of venue owners and can count on one hand how many achieve 100 bookings a year. The perception is out of control. 20-35 per year is the “norm.” Most venue owners had careers where they saved for a lifetime then leveraged their retirement or family land to start a venue and have never paid themselves a dime. Like literally working for free for years. Tours, meetings, maintenance, marketing, on call answering questions 24-7… oh and then actually hosting the events. Yes, there are corporate venues with in-house F&B, but thousands of couples are out here having realistic weddings without breaking the bank. They’re just not “fancy” enough to make the TikTok feed.

No one will understand the liability and cost taken on in the wedding industry for all vendors, especially venues.

I’m convinced there is so much misunderstanding because most couples have never started or owned a business and we as wedding vendors work SO hard to make it look easy so they don’t have to worry about the behind the scenes. But I’m 10 years in and I can say being a Wedding Vendor it is THE hardest and most expensive thing I’ve ever done 🤣😂

That’s why I laugh every time someone says they want to own a venue. It’s not even just cost!! Now you gotta be on city boards just to keep them out of your way, market, tour, do improvements AND then the horror, actually work the event.

Also you only make money 1 maybe 2 days a week. It’s not like you’re getting $5000 every day. Tours are free. Emails are free. Calls are free.

Question do some venues pass the insurance cost to the customers? just asking because when I got my venue for my wedding I had to get my own insurance so I’m wondering if that is separate? Or how does that work?

And it cracks me up sometimes when vendors fuss about a day of COI, which can cost as little as $25

Insurance is one of the biggest reasons we closed our trucking company down this year. We started in 2004. Insurance is out of control. Then you have every form of taxes for trucks. Then you have registrations of all sorts to be able to drive. Preventive maintenance went up. Tires went up. Everything went up except what we were being paid.
