The authenticity, vulnerability, and example - refreshingly human - thank you for this. Parenting is not linear, it’s not quantitative, there are no grades, and validation or feedback is non existent for like 20-yrs, and there is no formula, model, standard or blueprint that represents “the way” for all situations, for all parents, for all kids. We’re in the dark, we care so much, we are imperfect, we perceive others doing it so perfectly with ease, doing something right is never obvious, but fucking up is always so clear, and heavy, it’s kind of the only feedback we get while they’re kids, and it’s fucking hard, and there is always something to overcome. I’m a single dad, two girls chose to live with me FT after I got sober 7 years ago. My youngest has autism and my reality is each day I will have to roll with some crazy shit I can’t control. But what I heard from you is you’re a mom that is not okay with feeling like you’re less than a good mom. You care, you want to be a good mom, you love your kid - and I think this is all your kiddo wants and needs from you. All the other things and stuff comes and goes, we do some of it right and fuck others parts up - I think doing it right looks ugly. I think the things our kids need from us are not things we do well or not, they feel what’s in our heart. We’re unable to fake it, and it also has nothing do to with how well we can pull a flawless day together. Thank you for making this space available. I hope you will give yourself some grace, like you would your best friend. You feel all of this only because you’re a good mom. It only gets easier but you’re also exactly where you need to be. Hang in there my friend - we just have to do today 🙏🏼

I’m a mom of four and have been there! I didn’t know how to play with my kids and had bouts of depression. I took a parenting course in a small group (Adlerian) and it helped my confidence. I felt way less alone. Sending prayers. 🥰

Rachel I love you so much! I’m not a mother, but I am a human. A human who is lucky enough to have my life changed by you! Life is not easy, progress is not linear. The hard moments make the joyful moments worth it. The fact that you are having these thoughts shows you’re a good mom. You care❤️

Congratulations on being a human being! My kids are 19 and 23 and I will always worry that I didn't do enough or shape them this way or that way, it's the right of passage as a mother to always worry that you're doing it wrong. Nobody has a playbook, we just do the best that we can. And I know from your videos how spectacular of a person you are and how lucky he is so don't be so hard on yourself. It's very long days and very short years… Just take each day at a time.

Your videos have been incredibly helpful to me in understanding how OCD affects my life. Thank you so much for posting this. I have three kids, one with special needs, and I feel like a failure as a mother so much of that time. I've been following the trial daily too. So much I resonate with here. Glad to know I'm not alone.

parenting is the hardest job EVER. Remember that just because we feel a certain way it doesn’t mean it represent the truth. I imagine your son feels your unconditional love ❤️you’re an amazing and talented therapist and I can’t imagine your parenting is any different. Hang in there!! This wave will pass.

This is a beautiful post and you are a beautiful person. It’s beautiful because you let us into your heart, and it’s so real and human. I see how much you love your son and how much work, effort, and energy you give to parenting him. Yes you will screw up and live with mom guilt and pain…so do I. But I have to say that your son is so lucky to have you as a mom. 🙏🩷

We all feel that way at some point and sometimes all of the time. I love your content and it has helped me understand my daughter so much better. She is 21 with severe OCD and even though I can point out signs that she had it as a toddler, I still blame myself for causing it. You are right when you say it’s society. And I also know logically that it is how her brain was made. No one knows all the answers and we do our best to love our kids and parent the best way we know how. And to learn from people like you to be better.

Thank you for making this vulnerable post. I think every mom relates to this part of parenting at some point in their journey. None of us are perfect. For some reason, moms in particular, take it personally. Hoping tomorrow will feel better. 🫶 One of your videos came across my FYP and is the reason I learned my daughter had undiagnosed OCD. She's seeing a therapist now and I have learned how I was keeping her stuck in the pattern by always reassuring her, which felt like good parenting, but was actually not helpful to her at all. There's also plenty of feelings around trying to decipher how it may have developed and if it could have been prevented and if we're at fault somehow... We're all out here just trying our best. We've been parents for 20 years. Just when we get good at one stage, the next one comes along and we have to learn how to navigate it all over again. We have to be more gentle with ourselves for being human.

I’m so sorry you’re feeling this way. Idk if anything I say will help but I agree that when your kid grows up he’ll will appreciate you. I totally understand feeling like you made a mistake. I absolutely get it. When kids are little it is so hard. It gets better.
