Actually this clip demonstrates one test of different fuel additive variants to mitigate the explosive effects of fuel upon impact. The poles were meant to ensure the wing fuel tanks were ruptured.

contrary to the visuals, they learned a lot about survivability that day. they learned you could drop one of the phone poles on top of the fuselage and have a world class weenie roast, not having moved an inch.
