The American system is crazy. If the state can’t convince the jury on a conviction, this should favor the charged. Seems quite unfair to submit them to another expensive trial because the state failed to do their job.

Unbiasedly, the prosecution did not meet the burden of proof. Their experts even had doubt. The disagreement in the jury must be emotional. This is a heavy case

This is mad. In the UK, if the jury is ‘hung’ I.e. can’t come to a unanimous verdict - the jury is dismissed and the case needs to be brought again with new evidence on both sides. Asking people who have poured over the same evidence multiple times and STILL can’t come to a decision, to just keep going back at it is ridiculous and time wasting.

I don’t understand why a hung jury is a mistrial. The goal of the prosecution is to prove their burden beyond a reasonable doubt and given that at least one person doesn’t agree, isn’t that reasonable doubt? It doesn’t make sense to me. Am I mistaken?
