On March 14, 2024, CMPD Officer Henry Chapman helped with a traffic stop in Charlotte. Police found the driver was wanted on a federal warrant and discovered nearly $8,000 in cash. Chapman transported the man back to the patrol office — but then the man made a serious accusation. While still handcuffed, he told other officers that Chapman had taken a roll of $100 bills and hidden the money inside the patrol car. Officers searched the cruiser and found about $900 in cash in the driver-side door pocket. Chapman was questioned by detectives and arrested that same day on an embezzlement charge. He resigned from CMPD the next day after 15 years with the department. CASE OUTCOME: In September 2024, Chapman entered an Alford plea. He maintained his innocence but accepted that prosecutors likely had enough evidence to convict him.
