Two Women Journalists Allege Delhi Police Assault, Religious Targeting Two women journalists from 4PM News Network allege they were detained and assaulted by Delhi Police while covering an event attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at Max Hospital, Saket. Journalist Shaheen Khan claims she was attempting to question Rekha Gupta when police intervened and took her and colleague Nafisa Khan to Saket Police Station. She alleges they were hara$$ed and beaten, and claims the treatment intensified after police learned they were Muslim. Khan further alleged that “Muhammad” appearing in her name became a factor in the alleged targeting. Videos shared by 4PM show the journalists displaying marks they say resulted from the incident. Several Indian journalists’ organisations have called for an investigation. Delhi Police has denied the allegations, saying the journalists were detained over their scooter allegedly obstructing a designated VVIP route and their refusal to move it. Police described claims of assault over questioning the CM as “false, misleading and baseless.” The allegations of religious targeting remain claims made by the journalists and have not been independently established. CCTV footage, medical records and an impartial inquiry could help determine what occurred.
