In penguin terms that stone is a wedding ring, a building material and a status symbol all at once. 🐧🪨❤️ Gentoo, Adélie and chinstrap penguins build their nests entirely from stones, and males present the smoothest ones to a mate during courtship. Stealing pebbles from a neighbour's nest is one of the best documented behaviours in any penguin colony. One medium gentoo nest was recorded holding 1,700 pebbles, every one carried over a beak at a time.
