@findinghervoicesm: At the beginning of summer, Ava stood at this exact donut trailer and buried herself on me and did not order. Today, she tried again. This time there were people waiting behind her, several people working inside, and when her voice was too quiet to be heard… she didn’t shut down. I asked if they heard her. They hadn’t. So she spoke up and tried again. That little moment might not look like much from the outside, but for a 4-year-old with Selective Mutism, it says so much about how far she has come. She did amazing! The same thing happened to me today, I asked a classmate a question, and she was unable to understand me. Except this time instead of shutting down or getting angry, I tried again and she understood. The small moments really are the big ones.
