Brandon Sanderson magic system is great! When the moon hatched is quite long and has an interesting world. Throne of Glass series is the best of SJM. I enjoyed Fourth Wing, but dragons are cool so that plays a part.

Pete suggests The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson - its a series, the first is called The Way of King's. He also recommends The Live-Ship Traders (sp?) by Robin Hobb. He's currently reading The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon - described as a feminist LOTR and an LGBTQ+ epic fantasy, but he's not far enough through to say if he recommends yet. We have around 8,000,000,000,000 fantasy books in our flat, he could recommend books for hours
