In 1979 when I had my last baby maternity leave was 6 weeks total. I had pre eclampsia and was off 3 weeks before the birth and I had to go back to work when my baby was 3 weeks old. We needed my salary to live. It was pretty tough. If the government wants the birth rate to increase they need to support parents to take care of their children.
