Is it the same for dry needling? As far as I know, it's basically acupuncture but processed through western medicine. I see it used in physical therapy

I want to think acupuncture is sort of like assisted meditation in getting the body to relax. The average person isn’t practiced enough or has the time to put in the time to learn how to consciously focus specific areas for tension release. So yeah the actual action of the needles being inserted *likely* isn’t doing something, but just acting as guideposts for the mind to focus on. Placebo or no, being able to relax is just beneficial in general for overall health.

I tried acupuncture and it just didn’t do anything for me as far as pain relief for my back, but it was a little relaxing in a way due to the ambience 🤷♂️. So kinda exactly what he said lol

Now this is not to be confused with dry needling which is putting needles in problematic muscle for people with harsh knots or spasms which has really good statistical data on it

man I know it's completely unproven, and anecdotal but, one time my dog had a serious case of diarrhea and it pretty much stopped after acupuncture (I have a weird vet) so like I just classify it as magic that's not meant for me to understand or comment on

placebo is so weird. it can depend on types of treatment, so placebo shots work better than placebo pills for example. placebo surgery is also a thing? and there was at least one study where placebo worked even though people knew it was placebo. the association between I take pill --> I get better is so strong that just the act of swallowing the pill has some effect
