@plk_climb: Dean Potter was a pioneer of extreme sports who pushed the boundaries of human flight by combining wingsuit flying with base jumping and free solo climbing. He famously flew through incredibly narrow gaps in rock formations at speeds exceeding one hundred miles per hour using only a thin fabric suit to glide. Potter revolutionized the sport by using a wingsuit as a safety net during dangerous, high-altitude free solo climbs, a hybrid discipline he called BASE-climbing. His most famous flight occurred at Mount Eiger in Switzerland where he completed the longest base jump in history at the time by staying airborne for nearly three minutes. He often flew with his miniature Australian Cattle Dog named Whisper strapped securely to his back inside a modified backpack. Potter constantly sought ultimate freedom in the air but always acknowledged the razor-thin margin for error inherent in wingsuit proximity flying. His extraordinary and controversial flying career came to a tragic end in May 2015 when he and his flying partner Graham Hunt died during a wingsuit flight in Yosemite National Park after attempting to clear a notch in the cliffs of Taft Point.#deanpotter #thedarkwizard #slackline #wingsuit #rockclimbing
