@melissadorman: Let me see if I got this right. They took everything we used to own and rented it back to us. 🤨 Took the antenna → sold us cable. Took cable → now we pay 4 companies to watch the movie we used to own on a shelf. Took layaway → gave us buy now, pay later, with fees. Took the pension → gave us an account we fund ourselves and pay fees on, to the same corporations that took the pension. Took the part where you could take over the house payment from the person before you. You'd keep their loan, their rate, their years. Now everybody starts over at a brand new 30. And now they've got us renting the house too. Same move every time. But here's the one they never took: you can still buy a house straight from the person who owns it.
