@silentpoet9729: Trapping a tiny gas bubble in water with intense sound waves and watching it emit a blinding flash of light is one of the most astonishing phenomenons in modern physics. Known colloquially as "star in a jar," this effect occurs when high-frequency acoustic waves force a suspended bubble to expand and violently implode. At the peak of its collapse, the interior of the microscopic bubble generates extreme temperatures rivaling the surface of the Sun, converting pure acoustic sound energy directly into visible light. From an acoustic physics and fluid dynamics perspective, this process is known as single-bubble sonoluminescence. As ultrasonic standing waves drive acoustic cavitation, the bubble undergoes rapid spherical expansion followed by catastrophic inertia-dominated collapse. This supersonic contraction compresses trapped noble gases adiabatically, generating intense shockwaves that drive core temperatures above tens of thousands of kelvins. Under these extreme localized conditions of heat and pressure, the gas becomes momentarily ionized into a dense plasma, emitting picosecond-long bursts of ultraviolet and visible light through thermal bremsstrahlung radiation

The "star in a jar" experiment is possible through sonoluminescence, a fascinating physics phenomenon. High-frequency sound waves pass through a liquid, trapping a microscopic gas bubble. As the sound wave shifts to high pressure, the bubble violently implodes at supersonic speeds. This rapid compression heats the trapped gas to 10,000–20,000 Kelvin—hotter than the Sun’s surface—creating a plasma that emits a brief flash of light. While the basic mechanics are understood, the exact quantum physics behind the light emission remains an unsolved mystery, and this process converts acoustic energy directly into visible light.

"Scientists create a "tiny star" inside a liquid using sonoluminescence, a process where sound waves cause a tiny gas bubble to collapse so violently that it heats up to temperatures hotter than the surface of the sun and emits a flash of light."

we can do things like this, but we can't figure out how to make a lightbulb not burn out, or a car that doesn't need $5.00/gal gas. but yeah, cool trick bro

Just in water? Or could you do it in mercury? And what about with different gases?

Yes, we still have a lot to learn.
But what is the point, when humanity is becoming increasingly cruel and almost every discovery is misused for evil purposes instead of for the good of humanity?🥺

Its not mysteries. The light is generated because the collapse creates extreme temperature and pressure inside the bubble, exciting and partially ionizing the gas, and photons are emitted as it relaxes.
