In just 60 seconds, follow the journey: 🔹 Helicase unwinds and separates the DNA strands 🔹 Primers provide a starting point for DNA synthesis 🔹 DNA polymerase adds complementary nucleotides 🔹 The lagging strand is built in Okazaki fragments 🔹 DNA ligase joins the fragments together 🔹 The result: two DNA molecules, each containing one original strand and one newly synthesized strand This is why DNA replication is called semiconservative replication.
