Here's the math: put $7,500 a year into one for 30 years at a 7% average return, and you'd end up with around $708,000. About $480,000 of that is pure growth. In a traditional 401k, that growth gets taxed the day you withdraw it. In a Roth, it never does, that's over $100,000 in taxes you simply never pay, assuming a 22% tax bracket in retirement. Setting one up takes about 3 minutes. Pick Roth IRA (not traditional), link your bank, and put in whatever you can, even $100 counts. But here's the step almost everyone skips: funding the account isn't the same as investing it. Until you actually buy something, like a Target Retirement fund or a Vanguard ETF, your money just sits there earning next to nothing. You've got until April 2027 to meet this year's contribution limit.
