Every window is dark. Except one. At the very top of an enormous abandoned mansion, a single candle flickers. You stop. “That wasn’t there before…” The mansion’s front doors suddenly creak open. You stare into the darkness. Then you hear it. Knock. You glance behind you. Nothing. Knock. Knock. The sound is coming from inside the mansion. You slowly step through the doorway. The doors slam shut behind you. Inside, the mansion looks almost alive. Portraits line the walls, and their eyes seem to follow you as you walk. An antique grandfather clock ticks loudly in the silence. Then it stops. You look up. The hands slowly move backward. From somewhere upstairs comes a woman’s haunting whisper: “You finally came back…” You freeze. “I’ve never been here before.” A shadow suddenly darts across the balcony. You look up. Nothing. Then every candle in the mansion ignites at once. And standing at the top of the staircase is a pale, mysterious woman in a long black Victorian gown. She smiles. “That’s what you said the last time.” The staircase behind her begins stretching impossibly upward, disappearing into darkness. She extends one hand toward you. “Come upstairs.” You take one cautious step forward. The mansion groans around you.
