Didn't clean my room and came home from school with NOTHING but a bed and 7 outfits. no extra clothes, no toys, no plushies, nothing. she hid everything in the basement and let me pick one new outfit and one toy once a week if I kept the room clean 😔 took I think like a year before I got everything back

I hated my mother for this exact reason. As a child most parents think you have no rights to anything given to you. Your toys must be played with and put where they say. You wear what they say and how they say to wear it. You have you hair they way they like. You eat what they decide you can eat. It’s fucking prison. Kids are people in their own right. Awful parenting.

My kids can have messy rooms, just not disgusting rooms. I can understand if there were bugs starting to make a presence.But a messy room? Its his room. Kids often need clear direction and help cleaning, yes even until they are what society seems as "far to old."

My mother did this to me when I was older and got bullied in school. She never earned my trust back. There's a difference between mess and dirt. Messy is perfectly fine. Moved out at 18. My apartment is sometimes messy but it's clean. I have ADHD piles in certain areas. Messes that are hard to tackle take a little bit more time every once in a while. Kids rooms do not have to meet your perfect standards.

I did this to my kids room. Left the bed, 1 empty desk and their dresser with clothes. I took EVERYTHING out, including the books cause they wouldn’t put them away and step on them. For 2 months they had to do regular chores PLUS extra work to EARN BACK their stuff. I work hard to buy them stuff and they had to learn that hard work is needed to earn it back.
