@kbfsufan: Sometimes the nurse bullying you isn’t the loudest person in the room. Sometimes it’s the person who is supposed to be teaching you. #studentnurse #nursetok #nurses #rn #bullying
it still happens today. it happened to me when I was training to be a CNA and I witnessed a preceptor lamblast her student nurse in the middle of a semi empty cafeteria a couple of years ago (i was a sterile processing technician by then) this was two years post covid and I just don't understand. there is a shortage of nurses and health care workers, why are preceptors behaving like middle school bullies? it's time to shelve the mean girl micro aggression and grow up. seriously. you took an oath at your pinning ceremony and now have the honor of mentoring a fellow nurse but instead you choose to undermine their confidence and belittle them instead? I would try to read this nurses name badge whenever I'd pass her in the hall so I could at least file a complaint after what I had witnessed. this coward always had it backwards and deliberately shielded her identity from me. despicable. I'm glad that you had nurses who helped you early on in your career. I completely understand the fear of having a difficult conversation with an already difficult personality type and the DARVO that comes with it. nursing community- do better!

Way back in the some 45+ yrs ago. I had lab specimens and my preceptor told me in a demanding way to go do something right them. I wanted to finish the chain of command with my specimens, she said she would take care of it. They came up missing and the last check point was exactly where I had left them. She proceeded to tell others that I always misplaced important things, which was am absolute lie. Well after I lived thur her bullying I went on to practice for 45+ years and no one was disappointed in my work or follow-through. ❤️❤️❤️Tough subject for me.

my preceptor did my review and my instructor told her. "If I submit this review, this student will fail clinical" I think there was a language barrier. Preceptor didn't understand how to answer the questions. So she had to do it over again. It was a long 4th semester

when i was a new grad my first charge nurse did same thing to me. When I made a mistake she didn't bother to tell me let alone teach me how to prevent it again. I was told by other nurses she was watching me. Want to know what she fired me for? I sent 2 lab specimens down without the patient sticker. The required paperwork was there but I forgot to apply the actual sticker to the tubes. Now, is that something that can cause problems? Absolutely. The lab called me to tell me. Unfortunately I did the same mistake twice. In school I had the opportunity to observe a CABG. THAT was incredible!

Amen! Glad you persevered through that difficult time. I’m sure that bothered that preceptor more than you can ever imagine. Thank you for the encouraging words.

This is such an important situation to speak on! We had it rough back then! Some of those nurses back then were very nasty to us as students and graduate/new nurses. That changed the way I managed my entire career- never bullied a staff member. Always implemented education over unnecessary ab*se

I was a clinical instructor for 6 years. I had nurses hiding from me in the med room when they didn't want to take a student. Just tell me you don't want to take a student. OMG

it was an oncology unit. She moved so fast I couldn't keep up. She wouldn't even let me pass meds. But she sure let me do her assessments on the charts.
