In Alabama we consider it a matter of respect to honor the family of the departed. They've done this all my life. Its just our culture here.

I’m guessing this is Huntsville? They will have both sides of the parkway stopped for a funeral procession

Let me explain why! When my mother passed and we were all in line some moron decided to bob and weave in and out traffic and almost caused the hearse to wreck! We were on a four lane hwy.

In Alabama it just a good practice to always stop regardless of the highway or intersection. The general rule is if you would stop for the school bus you stop for the funeral.

It is a law around these parts that you yield to emergency vehicles. Since you have HPD escorting, you stop. It started out of respect but that’s just hard to find now, so they mandated it.

They do it in PA too. But I get the point. Why divided roads? That there is weird

it's funny to see the difference a funeral and just typical life differences from state to state because we respect our dead and their family and I know what they were saying because I'll be person too but I kind of love the tradition of honoring the dead in that way

Yep. Even on the interstate folks see it coming the turn their lights on and stop. And the ones that keep going…every car in that prosession sees and says “bless their heart” in the way you don’t wanna hear it.

As a sign of respect and a moment of silence, people pull over as the dead pass by. its their last journey before the final rest. all people who stop acknowledge that even if they dont know them.

We do that in GA, too. We dont wait because we’re in their way. We do it as a sign of respect for the family. As someone who has been in the family car behind the hearse, it meant a lot to see our community stop for us. As long as it’s not the highway, go ahead and stop regardless of what side of the road you’re on.
