Oh Man, I got reprimanded by the softest admin you can imagine. I told my PE class that they were “pushing my buttons.” Oh man, it was a giant ordeal because I hurt one of their feelings. I had to have a meeting with parents, grandparents and 2 principals. Mind you, that was exactly what my mother would say to me and I knew I better straighten up fast! (Gen X) This was the absolute definition of soft parenting and soft administration!

I’m known as the Drill Sargent at my school (I teach K/1 Sped) because I will say it. I had a kindergartener tell me she was a mermaid (after her teacher asked her 50 times to be quiet in line in the halls) I told her I am Ursula. She is quiet in the halls around me. (I’ve taught for 25 years at this point-so I am considered old school).

My teachers threw chalk and chalk brushes at us. One day I was clicking a pen too often. The history teacher took it out of my band opened the window and tossed out into a Canadian winter and 5' of snow.

What I think is funny is how when the first day of school happened. The teachers and Principal all stood outside and welcome the kids into the building and gave them high-fives and fist bumps. Our first day of school, the Principal would stand at the door with his big paddle with the holes drilled in it lol and the teachers were in their class. Nobody came out to greet us.

I heard every single one of them directed at me at some point in my life and somehow I survived. Some of the stuff I heard coming out of a nun’s mouth in Catholic school would make you question how they became a nun.
