I have always been fascinated by Myanmar textiles. To me, they are more than beautiful fabrics; they are living pieces of our history, culture and identity. During the Myanmar Academy Awards, I was fortunate enough to wear Myanmar lotus Acheik for the first time. I was captivated by the artistry, craftsmanship and extraordinary labour behind it. Since then, I knew I wanted to wear it once again, especially for a meaningful occasion like my departure for the 75th Miss Universe. My departure look features lotus fibre blended with cotton, bringing together two beautiful elements of Myanmar craftsmanship. The journey begins on Inle Lake, where artisans carefully harvest lotus stems and gently draw out the delicate fibres hidden inside. These fine strands are rolled and twisted together by hand to create thread. Each step requires patience, precision and incredible skill. The threads are then woven on traditional handlooms, with artisans carefully interlacing each strand to create the intricate patterns of Acheik. It is a remarkably labour-intensive process, involving countless hours of work and generations of inherited knowledge. Acheik also carries a rich royal history. During the Konbaung dynasty, its intricate Luntaya designs were associated with the Burmese royal court and worn by members of the royal family and other distinguished individuals. To me, the true value of lotus Acheik is not its monetary worth, but the human hands, time, dedication and heritage woven into every thread. As I leave Myanmar for the Miss Universe stage, I want to carry more than a beautiful piece of clothing. I want to carry the stories of our artisans, the richness of our heritage and the artistry of generations before us. Because sometimes, the most beautiful things we carry are not the things we own, but the stories we bring with us. With love, from Myanmar. 🤍 MUA @April Thuta Hair @Ba Lai kyit🪞 Dress @Sophie Hana Video @AUNG HEIN MYAT @Miss Universe Myanmar #MayGrace #MayGraceParry #MissUniverseMyanmar #75thmissuniverse #departurelook
