It really depends on the symptoms. If you think you’re menopausal, then definitely get labs! If you’re struggling to get pregnant, then labs!

In the majority of cases I explain this and patients are fine with not ordering them. Especially when I say 1. I can start you on something for perimenopause without them, and 2. Insurance often doesn’t cover them. I’ll test for my PCOS diagnosis in many circumstances but also not always needed even. When I explain how estrogen varies so unpredictably over time (ESPECIALLY in perimenopause) so your levels won’t change management, and your testosterone level (in menopausal women) is not going to change your management because I’m not giving you T then that’s usually enough. It people still push back then I order and warn about price 🤷♀️
